Under the patronage of His Excellency, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kadhem Abdel Sahib, and under the supervision of the President of Diyala University, Prof. Abdel Moneim Abbas Kareem, and chaired by the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities , Prof. Dr. Nassif Jassem Muhammad Al-Khafaji, the Department of History in our College held the second scientific specialized international integrated conference, under the title (With our Historical Research, We Draw Lessons). The conference was held under the slogan (The Civilized History, the Identity of Peoples through the Ages), from 9-10 May 2022, with the participation of (35) Iraqi, Arab and foreign researchers.
The conference was presented by Prof. Dr. Ali Mutaib Jassem. The conference began with reciting a verse from the Holy Quran, playing the national anthem, and the university anthem, then reciting Surat Al-Fatihah on the souls of the martyrs of Iraq and Iraqi universities. Then, the President of the University of Diyala, Prof. Dr. Abdel Moneim Abbas Kareem, delivered his speech in which he said that scientific research is an essential pillar of the educational process at the university, and our efforts are to provide a suitable environment and create a good opportunity for the exchange of ideas and visions and presenting many experiences, with the participation of many distinguished professors and teaching staff members in the field of history from inside and outside Iraq. Based on this vision, the College of Education for Humanities of Diyala University organized this conference, as it is a distinguished college in its path, and this college is capable of taking a prominent position among its counterparts from the colleges of Education in our beloved country. This due to the efforts of the college deanship and its distinguished teaching staff members, who keep pace to strive hard to progress, in order to make their college referred impressive with other colleges of the University of Diyala. Furthermore, he President of the University of Diyala, Prof. Dr. Abdel Moneim Abbas Kareem stressed that our university, with confident steps, and with an integrated work team, has prepared, and completed all procedures, to complete the preparations for the final examinations of postgraduate students for the current academic year. His team and he emphasized and determined with great vigor, to achieve the university’s objectives in graduating competent specialists, who contribute to the development of society in terms of scientific economic and social aspects to support the public and private sectors. So they can compete and innovate in the labor market. Moreover, he appreciated the sincere efforts that are being made for the sake of enriching this university, and its progress and advancement. The Dean of the College of Education of Humanities and the Conference Chairman, Prof. Dr. Nassif Jassim Muhammad Al-Khafaji, explained that the history is a record of events and lessons, and the nations draw their strength and inspiration from the history to move towards the future and continue in life, especially the nations that are well known by depth of their civilization, virtues, and their history full of achievements and human giving. The history is the memory of nations and peoples, and paying attention to it secures the integrity and permanence of that memory, and this is embodied by scientific and international conferences. The conference chairman explains that the conference witnessed distinguished international participation from several countries, as well as the local participation of researchers from universities and state institutions, stating that scientific conferences reflect the reality of the state of the institutions which organize them, and what they offer of services to public institutions and government departments, as well as , these conferences are for the exchange of information among the world and local researchers and the latest developments in this important scientific sector. The Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference and Head of the History Department, Prof. Dr. Abdul-Khaleq Khamis Ali, confirmed that the conference sought to form a scientific platform for historical studies that seeks to build interactive relationships between researchers in the field of sober historical research, and to identify new scientific methods and tools used by historical research, as well as it is an attempt to reveal new mechanisms for dealing with different historical sources, and stemming cultural and scientific communication between local and international academic institutions. He indicated that the conference discussed five axes, the first axis is in the history of ancient civilizations and their effects, and the second axis is in the efforts of modern researchers in the study of Islamic history. The third axis is on the impact of Arab-Islamic civilization on other nations, and the fourth axis is on the impact of the countries of the Arab and Islamic world on contemporary global politics. The last axis is on contemporary international relations and their impact on global politics.
In the first session of the conference, a lecture entitled (Archaeological Sites in Diyala – Their Importance and Ways to Protect) was delivered by Professor Ali Ahmed Abdel Latif, Professor Ahmed Abdel Jabbar Khamas) from the Diyala Antiquities Inspectorate, and moderated by Prof. Dr. Shaker Mahmoud Ismail. The first session witnessed the honoring of the lecturers by the Dean of the College, then the session was recessed by Professor Ali Mutaib Jassem to be electronic via the FCC program.
