| three types that deal with various types | ||||
| of literature, poetry, prose and drama. | ||||
| The first part is an introduction to | ||||
| English poetry which provides a | ||||
| general idea of the meaning of | ||||
| poetry, its uses, purpose the | ||||
| poem, the difference between | ||||
| poetry and prose and poetry and verse, | ||||
| the essential elements of poetry, namely, | ||||
| Lyric, sonnet, narrative, dramatic, etc, | ||||
| with example for each kind. | ||||
| The second part is the introduction to | ||||
| English prose that aims at making he | ||||
| student familiar with the various types | ||||
| of prose written by English and | ||||
| American writers. It begins with | ||||
| definitions of prose, its major | ||||
| types with a reference to the | ||||
| nature and characteristics of each type, | ||||
| the functions of prose and the style and | ||||
| language of prose. | ||||
| The third part is devoted to an introduction | ||||
| to English drama. This part begins with an | ||||
| introduction to drama in general and | ||||
| English drama in particular . It provides an | ||||
| explanation of the meaning type and elements | ||||
| of drama. It also gives a brief historical sketch | ||||
| of the development of drama since its early | ||||
| beginning. This introduction will be | ||||
| followed by extracts from representative | ||||
| dramatic works , in the choice of | ||||
| which there is an attempt to familiarize | ||||
| the student with various types | ||||
| of plays from various periods. | ||||
| This allows the student to employ | ||||
| the theoretical information of the | ||||
| introduction in he practical dramati | ||||
