
College of Education for Humanities Holds Scientific Seminar on Combating Cyber Extortion (Prevention and Response)
The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Diyala, held a scientific seminar entitled “Combating Cyber Extortion: Prevention and Response,” with the participation of several faculty members and students.The seminar, whose topics were discussed by Professor Dr. Zahra Moussa Jaafar, addressed the concept of cyber extortion as a modern digital crime. In this type of crime, the perpetrator threatens the victim with the publication of private or false information, photos, or videos online or through digital means, in exchange for fulfilling certain demands, which are often financial or illegal.The seminar clarified the characteristics of cyber extortion, which include the use of digital media, threats to publish harmful material, and imposing demands on the victim. It also reviewed the most prominent forms of cyber extortion, including emotional, financial, and sexual extortion, information extortion, and extortion through hacking. The lecturer also focused on ways to prevent this phenomenon, highlighting the importance of raising community awareness about the dangers of sharing sensitive information and images online, promoting a culture of digital security among students and young people, and implementing technical security measures such as using strong passwords, updating software, and avoiding suspicious links.This seminar comes within the framework of promoting digital awareness and community security, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through the dissemination of digital literacy, and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening the culture of law and digital security within the university community.
