Under the patronage of the President of the University of Diyala, Professor Dr. Tahseen Hussein Mubarak, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Professor Dr. Luay Saihoud Al-Tamimi, and as part of the activities of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week, the Human Rights Unit of the college, in collaboration with the Community Police Directorate in Diyala Province, held an awareness seminar titled “Drugs: A Hidden Terror.” The seminar, led by Legal Brigadier Salah Adnan Ismail and Engineer Ammar Jassim Mohammed, aimed to raise awareness of the societal harms caused by drugs. It covered topics such as types of drugs, symptoms and stages of addiction, treatment programs, withdrawal management, and prevention methods to mitigate the adverse effects of drug abuse on individuals and society. The seminar also highlighted the crucial role of families in preventing drug use by educating their children about the dangers and harms of drugs, guiding them away from violence and harsh treatment, fostering trust, providing a calm family atmosphere, monitoring friendships, avoiding negative peer influence, and addressing psychological issues such as anxiety and irritability. These lectures are part of ongoing efforts to spread awareness among citizens and promote a drug-free society.
