The College of Education for Humanities holds a cultural celebration on the occasion of Iraqi Environment DayUnder the patronage of the President of Diyala University, Professor Dr. Tahseen Hussein Mubarak, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Professor Dr. Luay Sayhood Al-Tamimi, the Department of Geography, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Division, held a cultural celebration on the occasion of Iraqi Environment Day, within the framework of promoting environmental awareness and highlighting the most prominent contemporary environmental challenges.The celebration included a number of scientific topics, among them a seminar entitled (Electronic Blackmail and Pollution of the Digital Environment in Iraq), presented by Brigadier General Salah Adnan Ismail, Director of Community Policing in Diyala, who explained that electronic blackmail contributes to weakening the safe use of technology and limits the role of the internet as a means of learning and positive communication, stressing that among its most prominent causes are weak electronic awareness, lack of digital protection, and misuse of social media, which necessitates effective awareness and legal solutionsIn another session titled “Plastic Pollution and its Environmental Effects,” Senior Chief Chemist Harith Jalil Razouqi from the Diyala Environment Department reviewed the serious environmental damage caused by plastic pollution, highlighting its negative impacts on living organisms, waterways, and human health. He emphasized the need to promote environmental awareness, reduce plastic use, improve waste management, and support recycling initiatives.Professor Dr. Firas Abdul-Jabbar Abdullah addressed the importance of planting trees as an effective natural means of improving the environment and supporting the economy in his session titled “Planting Productive Trees to Improve the Environment.” Professor Dr. Nasreen Hadi Rashid, in her research paper on the environmental challenges facing flamingos in Iraq, stressed the dangers of drought, water scarcity, and increased salinity to biodiversity. Finally, Lecturer Dr. Hussam Najm Al-Din Abdul concluded with a session titled “The Environment: Everyone’s Responsibility Towards a Sustainable Environment – The City of Batlouba as a Model,” emphasizing the importance of concerted efforts and spreading a culture of environmental awarenessAt the conclusion of the ceremony, the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Luay Sayhood Al-Tamimi, honored the participating gentlemen and lecturers, in appreciation of their scientific efforts and active participation, by awarding them certificates of appreciation, in confirmation of the college’s support for scientific activities that contribute to serving the community and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal (15) Life on Land
