
The College of Education for Humanities Holds a Seminar on Accountability and Professional Discipline and Their Impact on Enhancing Transparency in Public Institutions
The Legal Department, in cooperation with the Human Rights Unit at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Diyala, held a seminar entitled “Accountability and Professional Discipline: Tools for Enhancing Transparency in Public Institutions.” The seminar was presented by Legal Advisor Wasan Khalid, Head of the Legal Department at the College, and attended by a number of faculty members and staff.The seminar aimed to introduce the concept of accountability and professional discipline and explain their role in promoting transparency and integrity within public institutions. It also clarified the duties of public employees, professional misconduct, and its legal consequences, thus contributing to establishing a culture of institutional commitment and good governance.The seminar included a review of the most prominent challenges facing public institutions in improving administrative performance and combating corruption. It emphasized that accountability and professional discipline are two fundamental pillars for ensuring the proper performance of duties, protecting public funds, and enhancing public trust in government institutions. The lecturer also highlighted the importance of employees adhering to applicable laws and regulations and assuming professional responsibility, particularly in educational institutions that play a vital role in developing qualified personnel and serving the community. She noted that promoting integrity and transparency positively impacts the quality of services provided and the achievement of institutional development goals.The seminar witnessed active participation from the attendees through questions and comments addressing the legal and regulatory aspects related to accountability and professional discipline, as well as the mechanisms for their implementation in the university work environment.Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) focuses on promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability, and supporting the building of effective and accountable institutions at all levels.
