
College of Education for Humanities Holds a Scientific Seminar on Copying and Handwriting among English Language Learners with Learning Disabilities
The College of Education for Humanities held a scientific seminar entitled “A Study of Copying and Handwriting in the Performance of English as a Foreign Language Learners with Specific Learning Disabilities.” The seminar’s topics were discussed by Professor Dr. Iyad Hamid Mahmoud, in the presence of a number of faculty members and students.The seminar addressed copying and handwriting skills as two essential elements of writing performance among English language learners. It highlighted the problems faced by learners with learning disabilities, particularly in motor control, letter organization, speed, and accuracy, and the resulting impact on the quality of written expression and linguistic comprehension.The seminar concluded with several recommendations, most notably: providing training programs to develop fine motor skills; utilizing assistive teaching aids and modern digital technologies; training teachers in inclusive education strategies; conducting periodic assessments of students’ writing skills; and designing educational activities that consider the individual differences among learners.This seminar comes as part of the college’s efforts to support the fourth Sustainable Development Goal: inclusive and equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all, through the development of teaching methods and the improvement of educational outcomes for students with special educational needs.
