Two faculty members from the History Department at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Diyala, Professor Dr. Maher Mubdir Abdulkarim and Lecturer Dr. Abdulhakim Talab Jaafar, participated in publishing a research paper at the international conference organized by the Authentic Thought Association in cooperation with Mardin Artuklu University in Turkey. The research paper titled “The Bolivian National Liberation Movement of 1825” summarizes the Bolivian independence movement of 1825, a struggle that lasted more than 16 years against Spanish colonial rule. This movement was characterized by military and intellectual alliances led by South American heroes such as Simón Bolívar and Antonio José de Sucre. The spark of rebellion in Bolivia, formerly known as Peru, was ignited by the Chuquisaca and La Paz uprisings of 1808. The revolutionaries declared the establishment of autonomous governing councils that rejected Spanish authority, but these attempts quickly failed, leading to a temporary return of Spanish control between 1810 and 1825. During this period, the regime resorted to a guerrilla war known as the Banana War, which shifted control of rural areas to the nationalists. This research aligns with the eleventh Sustainable Development Goal, “Inclusive Cities and Communities,” which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, and sustainable.
