The Department of English, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Diyala, held a scientific seminar titled: “Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her): A Female Role Model and Her Impact on Building the Family and Society.”The seminar, presented by Assistant Lecturer Zainab Munther Shihab, aimed to highlight the religious, historical, and social status of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her). It underscored the moral and human values she embodied throughout her exemplary life, while also illustrating the role of women in building the family and raising generations grounded in the educational principles and values derived from her legacy.Furthermore, the seminar addressed the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation in achieving family stability. It shed light on the role of women in serving society and fostering values of solidarity and social cohesion, drawing upon the educational and social lessons from her life to address contemporary family challenges. The seminar concluded with recommendations to organize further university-level seminars and workshops that explore prominent female figures in Islamic history from historical, educational, and social perspectives. It also proposed the development of educational programs aimed at families—promoting a culture of constructive family dialogue, moral upbringing, and shared responsibility. This seminar aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals—specifically Goal 5: Gender Equality, by strengthening the status of women and highlighting their role in building both the family and society—as well as Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by fostering the values of tolerance, dialogue, respect, and peaceful coexistence.
