
A faculty member from the College of Education for Humanities participates in the Fifth International Conference on Geomatics Technologies and Smart Cities
Dr. Mohammed Yousef Hajim, a faculty member from the Geography Department and head of the Spatial Research Unit at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Diyala, participated in the Fifth International Conference on Geomatics Technologies and Smart Cities. The conference, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’a Al-Sudani, and themed “Towards a Safe and Sustainable Future,” was organized by the National Center for Spatial Development Management at the Al-Rasheed Hotel – Al-Zawraa Hall in Baghdad Governorate from February 7-9, 2026.Dr. Hajim’s participation included presenting his research paper titled “Towards a Spatial Approach and Alignment for Selecting Sustainable City Projects in Diyala Governorate.” The paper focused on supporting data from the Iraq Geographic Portal and the research teams within the Spatial Research Unit to enhance sustainable urban planning and improve spatial decision-making mechanisms. This scientific participation is in line with Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by supporting the use of geospatial technologies in achieving sustainable urban development and enhancing the quality of life in Iraqi cities.
