The College of Education for Humanities at Diyala University, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein/Department of the Holy Quran Center, held a Quranic seminar entitled: “The Cosmic and Intrinsic Verses According to Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him).” This seminar was part of the activities of the Fifth Annual Quranic Camp, a program of the Quranic Project in Universities. The seminar witnessed a distinguished academic and cultural presence. It was presented by Ali Talib, a legal scholar, and recited verses from the Holy Quran by Ahmed al-Sharikhani. The seminar’s keynote speaker was Dr. Murtadha Jamal al-Din, who explained the concept of the cosmic and intrinsic verses according to Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), highlighting the evidence of innate disposition (fitrah) and the evidence of effects (athar) in humankind and all other creatures. He emphasized the importance of contemplation and reflection on the universe as a means to attain true knowledge. The seminar emphasized that rote learning alone is insufficient in the educational process; rather, deep reflection is what distinguishes students and leads them to creativity. It cited the saying of the Imam: “An hour of contemplation is better than seventy years of worship,” explaining that the greatest achievements of scientists, such as Isaac Newton, were the fruit of thought and contemplation. At the conclusion of the seminar, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Luay Sayhood Al-Tamimi, honored the organizers by awarding them certificates of appreciation in recognition of their scholarly efforts. This activity comes within the framework of achieving the fourth Sustainable Development Goal: quality education, through promoting critical thinking, developing cognitive awareness, and linking religious sciences with the reflective scientific method.
