Since its establishment, the university has recognized the importance of scientific research and its role in developing the institution and its academic staff, considering that one of its missions is to keep pace with excellence, create social motivation toward research and discovery, and provide the necessary support and resources for this purpose.
The university has given special attention to scientific research by establishing the Scientific Affairs Division, which has become responsible for supporting academic research as a key objective of sustainable development and technological advancement. The role of the division in disseminating human knowledge can be recognized through its continuous efforts to develop scientific activities at both the local and international levels.
The division has placed extensive focus on developing its tools and capabilities, as research encompasses various fields and specializations. It aims to assist faculty members in developing their scientific research and improving its quality to reach international standards, enhance human knowledge, and achieve academic excellence.
To achieve these goals, the division provides researchers with the latest tools and software necessary to help them produce research in the best possible form and maximize its utilization.

Attention to scientific affairs in universities is considered one of the most important means of developing the academic level of universities and is also one of the fundamental pillars for advancing scientific progress in the country, as universities are responsible for managing and following up on scientific activities. Therefore, the division has emerged as a scientific entity concerned with the various aspects that contribute to the development of the university, faculty members, and researchers.
The division also focuses on academic promotions for faculty members from inside and outside the university through follow-up procedures and the preparation and printing of related documents. It also seeks to issue instructions and regulations that organize cooperation with institutions within the governorate.
In addition, the division supervises and follows up on scientific publishing activities in Iraqi universities, including the publication of peer-reviewed scientific journals, research papers in international journals, and the accreditation of scientific journals for publication purposes. It also deals with other scientific affairs, such as scientific reports and preparing studies that contribute to expanding the scientific horizons of all higher education personnel.
One of the main units of the Scientific Affairs Division is the Scientific Outputs Unit, which aims to prepare memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements between universities and various state institutions to market research outcomes and benefit from them in different scientific fields. The unit is also concerned with research plans through the Research Unit, starting from the preparation of the research plan and the regulations for its registration until its completion.
Achieving the highest level of performance in accomplishing the tasks of the college’s divisions, enhancing the academic level, and following up on the completion of all activities related to workshops, conferences, seminars, and discussion sessions held at the college, in accordance with the approved instructions and regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Strengthening and enhancing scientific research, encouraging and motivating teaching and research staff to improve the level of research work at the college, and following up on distinguished intellectual outputs, including publications, patents, and other forms of outstanding achievements.
- Following up on completed, planned, and published research plans and ensuring their completion.
- Issuing certification letters for academic promotions and providing the necessary documents for applicants seeking promotion.
- Circulating ministerial letters received through the University Presidency / Scientific Affairs Department, following up on their implementation procedures, and preparing responses accordingly.
- Covering conferences, seminars, and discussion sessions organized by the college departments.
- Following up on research published by faculty members in Arabic and international journals, documenting them, and informing the University Presidency / Office of the Scientific Assistant about publications in internationally indexed journals with impact factors.
- Preparing statistics on books authored by faculty members of the academic departments.
- Encouraging faculty members to participate in the Higher Education Award through follow-up and facilitating the required procedures.
- Following up on the external activities of faculty members and academic staff at the college.
