Under the patronage of the President of Diyala University, Professor Dr. Tahseen Hussein Mubarak, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Professor Dr. Luay Sayhood Al-Tamimi, the Department of Arabic Language at the College held a cultural seminar as part of its series hosting cultural and academic figures. The seminar, titled “The Text as an Open Space: Questions and Revelations in the Book ‘Spaces of the Text’,” featured a discussion with critic Yassin Al-Nassir, moderated by Professor Dr. Ali Mutab Jassim.
The seminar, moderated by Professor Dr. Ali Mutab Jassim and moderated by critic Yassin Al-Nassir, aimed to approach the literary text as a dynamic structure open to multiple meanings and interpretations. It also highlighted the transformations in the concept of the text within contemporary literary criticism, particularly the shift from the closed text to the open text and intertextual dialogue.
The symposium’s concept stemmed from the book “Spaces of the Text,” a critical work that re-examines the boundaries of meaning and the authority of the author, emphasizing the reader’s role as an active partner in the production of meaning. It also discussed modern critical approaches and their connection to reading practices in Arabic criticism.
The symposium recommended encouraging contemporary interpretive studies and promoting critical research that addresses the text as an interactive space with multiple meanings. This contributes to supporting scientific research and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by developing the humanities and fostering critical thinking among students and researchers.
This cultural symposium aligns with one of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal 4: Quality Education.
At the conclusion of the symposium, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Luay Sayhood Al-Tamimi, presented the organizers with the college’s shield and a certificate of appreciation in recognition of their efforts, wishing them continued success.
